Takes a business approach to explaining the challenges facing organizations as existing leadership structure retires and new leaders are needed. Effective succession management is key to ensuring that organizations do not lose existing leadership institutional values. Although Rothwell and his colleagues use private-sector examples, they also note the importance of proactive approaches to succession management and effective use of mentoring and career development for potential future leaders.
